Be Willing to Learn

In order to truly teach our students, we must be willing to learn from them. At the start of this new semester, take time to ask your students where they would like their journey to take them beyond school. Our job is to inspire and equip students for what lies ahead. Having information that relates to their desires and motivations and engaging students in meaningful dialogue about real and important issues to them is a first step in helping them connect their present school experiences and our expectations to their futures. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started:

  • What is a goal you have for this year? For your lifetime?
  • Draw a picture or describe yourself in 10 years. Where are you standing? What are you saying or thinking?
